*** REMARKS: HD (High Definition) refers to the high-definition video signal sources. In the CRT analog TV era, video resolution is just only SD (Standard Definition) 720X480 (480i & 480p ). For the past few years, the TV industry just evolved into a HDTV (Digital TV) times, the resolutions improved to 1280X720 (720p) and 1920X1080 (1080i & 1080p). For a Full HD video could play with the resolution 1920X1080. Now you can see it as top-level version of HD. Japan even had started to ultra-high quality (Super Hi-Vision) technology, with resolutions up to 7680X4320, In such resolution, even a piece of hair is looking crystal clear. High-definition formats: high-definition video required a huge data transmission due to a huge detail video and audio information. So there come out new compression algorithms according to different high-definition video formats. The mainstream formats are: H.264, WMA-HD, MPEG2-TS, MPEG4 and VC-1 and so on. The H.264 format is currently the most popular out of the major 4 formats. High-quality CD-ROM: the traditional DVD discs of 480-line picture quality can no longer meet our daily needs. A new standard "Blu-ray DVD" is now gradually replacing the DVD format. Blu-ray DVD discs have single-layer 25GB of storage capacity, and can provide up to 1080 lines (1080i and 1080p) video output performance accordingly.
